Girl Sweat / Errant Monks/ Simon Crab

GIRL SWEAT: International man of mystery, Mr. Sweat makes drugged out noise, swirling through the garage spectrum.

Girl Sweat is the ever-changing garage-noise project fronted by the 6ft 5” beast that is ‘Sweat’. Since forming in 2011 in it's full-band incarnation, featuring various other underground garage luminaries, late-2013 saw the true birth of Girl Sweat as a solo venture. A Tascam 4-track cassette deck full of bass, Casio drums and noise loops accompany his trademark Lap Steel, harsh synths and overdriven, echoed-out vocals- simultaneously destroying the songs’ lines between garage and noise, giving the show a new intensity in sound and performance; the ideal purveyor of a groove-infused bad trip.

Girl Sweat’s flux between body-moving garage tunes and malevolent lo-fi sounds has seen him comfortably move between a multitude of the best in garage, ‘psych’ and experimental weirdoes around including; Silver Apples, Consumer Electronics (Phillip Best of Whitehouse), Moon Duo, Kid Congo & The Pink Monkey Birds, The Cosmic Dead, Sleaford Mods, Destruction Unit, Night Beats, Lola Colt, Al Lover, Useless Eaters, Crocodiles, Sic Alps, Lorelle Meets The Obsolete, The Cult of Dom Keller, Gallon Drunk and more.

ERRANT MONKS:

Post-industrialist Manchester collective induce trance-states via monochromatic psychedelia: Heady Body Music.

SIMON CRAB:
Simon Crab was the founding member of Bourbonese Qualk, who were easily one of the most strange and compelling bands to emerge from the ‘80s underground. They were also sometimes one of the best, but they never quite achieved the stature in the post-industrial canon that they deserved. A good part of that is probably due to their constantly shifting and eclectic style, though they seemed to perfect their singular mélange of electronic music, mutant funk, gamelan, and experimentalism by 2001's ‘On Uncertainty’ (their final album).
In the last few years Crab has started to work as a solo artist – recording new music and performing live electronic and acoustic music mixed with real time video manipulation. This new music continues to develop the path that made Bourbonese Qualk so intriguing; an eclectic unpredictable mix of electronica, improvisation, obscure instrumentation enveloped in rapid changes of mood, direction, noise and rhythm. Simon Crab’s first solo album ‘After America’ was released in 2016 and will be followed by a new album ‘Demand Full Automation’ (Klanggalerie) in March 2018. Since 2016 SImon Crab has been performing with a live band at numerous festivals and venues across Europe, this will continue with a European and US tour in May-June 2018 and September 2018.
Alongside this new work has been a resurgence of interest and critical reappraisal of Bourbonese Qualk with the re-release of their early work on a compilation CD (‘Bourbonese Qualk 1982-1986’ on the Berlin Mannequin label – Best reissue album of 2015 ‘Wire Magazine’) as well as a 12” edit and remix of ‘Lies’ by the DJ and producer Ancient Methods. This will be followed by a vinyl reissue of all of the group’s albums over 2017-2018.
